The Citizens for King William County (C4KWC)
The residents of the county initially came together in opposition to the proposed motocross raceway, but it quickly became clear that a more organized, nonprofit group could work more effectively with county officials in planning our community’s future. We realized that only through an informed, active, and empowered citizenry, can we manage growth, preserve history/culture, mitigate environmental threats, and achieve a better quality of life. The Citizens for King William County (C4KWC) was incorporated on February 13, 2008 to provide residents and elected officials with accurate and relevant information needed to make informed decisions on issues impacting our community. The goals and objectives of this nonprofit organization are listed below:
- To promote the preservation and maintenance of the historic character and integrity of King William County, Virginia;
- To protect and preserve the natural resources of King William County, including its wetlands, wildlife and agricultural enterprises;
- To foster an interest on the part of the citizens of King William County in the operation of its government;
- To provide a forum for input and discussions of matters of common interest and concern to residents of the county;
- To disseminate information concerning issues affecting or pertaining to the quality of life of the residents; and
- To promote a sense of community among the diversity of residents.
By standing together, the Citizens for King William County have developed a strong sense of community. C4KWC members are truly engaged in the life of the community and genuinely want to make it an even better place for everyone. We have hosted forums on issues of concern to the county. We have participated in the Planning Commission, Board of Supervisors, Board of Zoning Appeals, and other community meetings. We have participated in the annual spring cleanup and have adopted a highway. We have supported the annual Spring Fest and KidZ Fun Festivals as well as individual students. We have supported seniors and the Upper King William County Senior Center activities. We have raised money through community events such as spaghetti dinners, chili cook offs, and yard sales. See the Community Activities web page for more detailed information.
